In the experiments with discrete injections of the fluorescent microspheres, each quadrant rostrolateral, .
caudolateral, rostromedial and caudomedial of the SC received. one large dose 300–750 nl of either green or red microspheres. Three animals had rostrocaudal placements of the two tracers and two had mediolateral placements. In ferrets 9206 and 9208, green microspheres were injected in the rostrolateral and rostromedial quadrants of the SC, and red microspheres in the caudolateral and caudomedial quadrants. The pattern of injections of the two types of microsphere was reversed in ferret 9228. In animals with mediolateral injections, green microspheres were placed in the rostromedial and caudomedial quadrants of the SC and red microspheres in the rostrolateral and caudolateral quad- rants in ferret 9230, whereas the converse pattern of injections was used in ferret 9231. In ferrets 9206 and 9208, green microspheres were injected in the rostrolateral and rostromedial quadrants of the SC, and red microspheres in the caudolateral and caudomedial quadrants.
